We are an all-volunteer charity with no paid employees, so we depend 100% on the willingness and commitment of local people to get involved in running and managing things.
Volunteering for Waterways Experiences is fun and rewarding with a wide range of roles to suit people from all walks of life. What’s essential is that that you have both the enthusiasm and commitment to volunteer regularly, and relevant skills and experience (or willingness to learn).
We keep this site up to date with current vacancies. If you think one of these might suit you, please complete and submit the expression of interest form and the relevant team leader will get in touch with you with more information and to arrange a meeting at the boat base.
If you don’t find anything that sounds right for you today, we hope you’ll visit again to check for updates. Or feel free to drop an email to firstname.lastname@example.org telling us about your skills and availability and one of the team will get back to you. We usually have plenty of work for willing and competent administrators.
Our comfortable boat base at Nash Mills has basic office facilities. Many of our volunteers work on site on Wednesday mornings and we provide a light lunch of soup and bread. The base is open on other days too, depending on when boats are booked and when groups of volunteers arrange meetings and working parties. Much of our management and administration happens by email from home.
We pay reasonable travel expenses where work involves travel to our base in Kings Langley. Each volunteer is part of a departmental team, guided by an experienced team leader.
Not local to Hemel Hempstead?
We have a few places on each of our Enable Holiday trips for one- off volunteering … which would appeal to people who don’t live locally or who cannot commit to regular crewing year round. For more information visit our Enable Holidays pages.
