An award winning charity

In 2018, the hard work and dedication of the volunteers at Waterways Experiences was recognised by receipt of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service

This  is the highest award given to local volunteer groups across the UK and recognises outstanding work done in local communities. It was created in 2002 to celebrate the anniversary of The Queen’s coronation and is known as the ‘MBE for volunteer groups’.

Following a nomination by Bob McLean, Mayor of Dacorum 2016/2017, we received this prestigious award in 2018.  Our award citation was…

The work your group does for the community was very much admired by the independent Assessment Committee, chaired by Sir Martyn Lewis CBE and I am delighted to inform you that your group has been selected as a recipient for The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS) 2018. The award of The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service 2018 represents a tremendous achievement for your organisation. We hope that everyone involved, and particularly your volunteers, feel immensely proud of the recognition that this Award represents.’

The award is a reflection of all of our volunteers’ hard work, investment of time and the incredible impact Waterways Experiences has had in its local community.

Canal & River Trust,  Waterways Services Award

We received this in 2019 for our volunteers’ help with the maintenance of our local stretch of canal.

Dacorum Borough Council, Regeneration – Community Grant Award

We received this in 2019 for the improvements we made to our car park.  This was a major environmental improvement and created easier access, particularly for wheelchairs.
