Current opportunities
Various admin vacancies
Several of our teams are looking for additional admin help. Mostly working from home, helping us arrange our trips – liaising with both clients and volunteers.
Boat Crew
We are currently recruiting crew members for our three boats. You will need to be physically fit and able to undertake all the duties required of our crew members. Experience not necessary as full training will be given. We normally have a skipper and two crew on most trips, so some of the duties below are shared.
An overview of the role:
Prepare the boat
Welcome passengers on board
Supervise embarkation & cast off
Encourage guests to get involved
Supervise guests at locks & steering
Passenger information sheet and feedback.
Supervise disembarkation
Post trip clean-up
Be alert to manage emergencies
Maintenance Team
We meet at the base every Wednesday from 9:00 to maintain and clean the boats and visitor centre and keep the garden looking good. A tasty snack is usually provided at noon.There is a good sense of camaraderie within the maintenance team.
Could you help with any of the following on a reasonably regular basis please?
Practical Maintenance Volunteer
We are looking for a hands-on volunteer with very practical skills who can assist us with the maintenance of our three canal boats. Anyone with very good DIY skills would be of interest. Any of the following skills would be useful: electrical, mechanical, woodwork, plumbing, heating, painting or general maintenance. Tools are provided and guidance is always available.
Electrical Engineer / Electrician
We are particularly interested to hear from people who have practical electrical skills gained as a tradesman or engineer. The .work involves problem solving and maintenance of both mains and battery circuits. Experience of boats or marine circuits is not necessary and guidance is always available.
Painter
These ageing boats constantly need rust to be treated, wood to be revarnished and paintwork to be retouched. We would welcome someone with painting experience to help us out.
