Supporting the local canal
Keeping our canals safe and accessible
A few years ago, some of our volunteers started using one of our boats to access and trim back some of the vegetation growing along the bank opposite the towpath. It was becoming a bit dangerous for our large Sheldrake III because tree branches blocked the helm person’s vision of oncoming boat traffic. Our efforts were acknowledged by the Canal and River Trust. They selected us for a national award and we have now been accepted into their Canal Adoption Scheme. We work closely with their local volunteer coordinator to help with a range of tasks from rubbish clearance to transporting work boats to where they’re needed for their maintenance and repair work sites. Definitely a win-win for everyone!
