Young carers’ weekends

A weekend adventure on the Grand Union Canal for young carers

In 2017, we added weekend trips for Young Carers – people whose daily lives include a large measure of caring for a sibling or parent. 

These weekends are for youngsters who have a caring role in their everyday lives, whether it be helping with a parent or sibling. We allocate places but Young Carers in Herts (YCIH) send out communications to the various age groups inviting the young carers to apply directly to us. The weekend starts on a Friday evening and ends on Sunday evening. On each trip there are 4 crew (all DBS checked) and up to 8 young carers.

In 2026 we are planning 8 weekend trips.  Here are the details:

YC1 23 – 24 May, Ages 8 – 11

YC2 29 May – 31 May, Ages 8 – 11

YC3  5 – 7 June, Ages 8 – 12

YC4 12 – 14 June, Ages 8 – 11

YC5 19 – 21 June, Ages 8 – 11

YC6 26 – 28 June, Ages 16 – 18

YC7 3 – 5 July, Ages 12 – 15

YC8 10 – 12 July, Ages 12 – 15
